Mission Statement

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)

What’s the Purpose of a Mission Statement?

Imagine sailing on a boat with no rudder or riding in a car with no steering wheel…you would just be traveling along with no idea where you were headed! In the same way a mission statement points a church to where it’s headed! Our missions points us to who’s in charge, what we do, who we do it for and what results occur.

Who’s In Charge?
Our mission statement points us to the leader of our church…”The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me…”. The “me” is Jesus! When He spoke these words of Isaiah in the 4th chapter of Luke, He stated, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” He was laying claim to be the ultimate messenger of God, the fulfillment of the Messiah! His anointing by God established Jesus as the head of the church and we accept Him as the head of this church…our leader in all aspects, great and small!

What Do We Do?
Our mission statement points us to our purpose also…”to preach good news to the poor”. We preach the Good News of Christ to all peoples, but especially the poor in spirit, letting them know that Christ has paid a price for them and has a plan for them!

Who Do We Minister To?
The mission statement says we minister to the “brokenhearted”, those who are struggling in life and spirit…Jesus said He came to seek and save those who were lost, and we recognize our purpose as a church, to be an extension of Jesus in fulfilling that mission.

What is the Result of Our Mission Statement?
The mission statement states there will be “freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” Freedom from the captivity of sin such as alcohol, drugs and lust; freedom from the nature of sin that seeks to keep us from life. Bringing the light into the darkness for prisoners of sin, prisoners of their own vices and hurts, prisoners of their own feelings. Our mission statement proclaims new life for all, through the Anointed One, Jesus Christ…that’s the direction Hope Church travels!
